STRONG SHOWING AT RED BLUFF & KLAMATH BULL SALES

Grange Co-op’s participation in the annual Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale truly feels like a homecoming, now that our newest location in Redding has been up and running since last year. The show was once again blessed with warm weather, seeing tremendous attendance and breaking record sales. Our Redding associates weren’t the only Grange Co-op representation at the event; White Ranch Angus from Jacksonville Oregon took home Reserve Supreme Champion bull. The White’s bull, who brought the day’s highest bid, was finished on our new Rogue Beef Finisher & Grower ration.

The Red Bluff Bull & Gelding sale has so much more to offer than just the auction; attendees could participate in one of the largest Western trade shows in the nation, watch stock dogs compete for top billing, enjoy the Western Art Show, and more!

Only a few days later, we crossed state lines for another landmark event, the Klamath Bull & Heifer Sale. Like the Red Bluff sale, this event featured activities for the whole family beyond the auction. Folks from all around the Basin and then some could watch barrel races, join the CatleWomen for a fantastic dinner, and kick up some dust during the Ranch Rodeo.

Associates from both our Klamath Falls and Redding teams look forward to these events every year; they’re a great way to meet the ranchers and producers who contribute so much to the cattle industry of this country. We thank both the Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale, and the Klamath Falls Bull & Heifer Sale, for having us every year, and look forward to many more with you!

A WEEKEND OF TAIL-WAGGING SUCCESS

A Weekend of Tail-Wagging Success

While we think Grange Co-op might be your pet’s favorite place to shop, it’s more important that every pet has a good home. That’s why we partner with several shelters, humane societies, and rescues to host adoption events at several of our stores. In the past few months, we were fortunate to host Haven Humane at our Redding location twice, and SoHumane for one of our two annual partnership adoptions, at our Central Point location. And what a turn out! At our adoption events alone, several pups found homes thanks to Haven Humane’s work, and a whopping twenty-two pups found new families thru SoHumane’s tireless efforts.

We invite you to join Grange Co-op and Haven Humane or SoHumane at one of our upcoming adoption events and meet the newest member of your family! And follow our Facebook and Instagram pages to see the outreach we’re doing with other local rescues - you might even spot another event coming to a store near you!

A STRONG SEASON FOR FFA

We cannot overstate how much we value our partnership with the FFA. From our grant programs (now available in Oregon AND California!) to state conference, community fundraisers to leadership camps, we have always appreciated the way FFA students step up and demonstrate the motto of ‘Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve’.

It was only a few short months ago that all Grange Co-op locations pitched in with community members for our second annual Blue Christmas fundraiser. This effort of selling ‘Corduroy Cool’ paper jackets in varying increments raised an astounding $22,000 for local Oregon and California FFA chapters.

Grange Co-op is incredibly proud of our grant program, and the projects we’re able to help facilitate through the sponsorship in part funded by fundraisers like Blue Christmas. This year, we helped fulfill projects for Mazama, Henley, Umpqua, and Prospect FFA chapters in Oregon, as well as Wheatland – Bear River, West Cottonwood, Grass Valley – Bear River, and Palo Cedro – Redding Christian FFA chapters in California. Projects ranged from improving outdoor classrooms and garden areas to kickstarting Forestry Career Development teams, to expanding woodworking capabilities and even developing an Annual Petting Zoo!

By the time this issue hits your front porch, we’ll have wrapped up another Oregon FFA State Convention. This year’s theme is Rooted, which feels so appropriate for a team that is enthusiastic about recognizing and appreciating the roots you’ve set down. Together, we all bring with us the background and learned knowledge of where we came from, and how it shaped who we are and who we want to be. These students, at an instrumental time in their lives, embody that in their leadership, as we’ve seen time and time again.

Appropriately enough, the California FFA State Conference’s theme is ‘Dawn’, and both of those themes combine so well to embody the elements needed to grow not just healthy crops, but strong leaders. While we cannot join California FFA at their annual conference this year, we congratulate all the outgoing team of officers on their successful year and wish the best for the incoming students who will usher in a new year of exemplary FFA leadership.

SHOW RING CONFIDENCE STARTS WITH GOOD NUTRITION

For most folks, March means the start of spring, and summer is a far-off prospect of hotter days. But for students with project animals, most have already begun the hard work needed to raise a blue ribbon project in time for fair! To help these students get the best chance in the show ring, Grange Co-op partnered with Purina Mills and brought in Jordan Baumgartner, an esteemed sales rep and livestock judge to provide his insight on raising show animals to the best of a student’s ability. Over 50 students joined us in the Mace building of the Jackson County Expo to hear Jordan speak on raising sheep, swine, and goat project animals, pulling from both his own industry knowledge and personal experience. This was also a great opportunity to meet new and returning Youth in Ag students, many of whom we’ll see again at our local fair, where we hope all their hard work has paid off (literally!)

If your student doesn’t already have a GrangeRewards Youth in Ag account, or hasn’t renewed since September, make sure you get them signed up or renewed so they can get that sweet discount on show supplies, show feed, and apparel!

REDDING: FROM GRAND OPENING TO AWARD-WINNING

The Redding crew hasn’t slowed down since opening last August – before April is through, they’ll have attended several community events, including the Red Bluff Bull Sale, Sierra-Cascade Logging Conference, Crown Motors NorCal Boat & RV show, Redding Home Show, and the Redding Sportsman’s Expo.

We’re also exceedingly grateful to be named New Business of the Year by the Redding Chamber of Commerce. “We want to support people and we want people to support us, that’s what a co-op is,” says Karen Luce, store manager, “… that’s our model – to be involved in the community and give back … thank you for this award, it’s amazing!”

Thank you, Redding community, and the greater Nor Cal area, for welcoming us into your home!
