Grange Co-op is continuously pursuing opportunities to help support agriculture in our communities. There are so many ways individuals of any age can get involved in agricultural programs! For example, this doesn’t always require working directly with animals, but rather, it can include other opportunities such as being a representative and advocate for agriculture. An outreach initiative we recently learned more about is the Miss United States Agriculture program.

One of our own Grange Co-op team members, Demetria Marical, has been selected to represent the state of Oregon as the 2022 Oregon Ms. United States Agriculture. This program started in 2014 and was created to give girls the opportunity to advocate and educate others about agriculture. This opportunity is available to all age groups, giving them the chance to compete for National, State, and County Queen titles.

Each year the competition for National title subsequently provides an opportunity for the students to earn scholarships! The girls receive a sash and crown which provide an easy way to start conversations and create awareness for others. Girls can take on this role as much as they would like, representing Miss United States Agriculture at different events, in the classroom, and for any agricultural-related, and educational purposes! The girls have the flexibility to curate and make this experience exactly what they want it to be. Participation is always encouraged, and if you or someone you know is interested, get involved! Register and pay the national fee online and- depending on the state you reside in, there may be a short interview process.

When asked why she wanted to become involved, Demetria stated, “In today’s day and age, the agricultural industry is so often misunderstood. I hope to use my year of service as an opportunity to educate and advocate to the best of my abilities. I have spent the majority of my life in the ag industry one way or another and would like to use my experiences and knowledge to make a difference. I hope to give back in any way I can!”
