Rogue Myrtlewood Myrtlewood has been recognized and used for many centuries. It is mentioned in the Bible six times and has been used for medicinal purposes, firewood, seasoning, and carvings. It is a hardwood and when green will sink in water. It can take anywhere between 100 and 150 years for Myrtlewood trees to mature to a harvestable size. Myrtlewood requires much care and attention before it is able to be used for carving. It takes about one year per inch of thickness to air dry Myrtlewood. Myrtlewood is a beautiful wood for carving because of the richness, intensity and diversity of the wood. The wood can be tan, light gray, beige, chocolate and rose colors. With proper care your Myrtlewood merchandise will become an heirloom your family and friends will treasure.
Myrtlewood Care: Both high gloss finished and oil finished Myrtlewood pieces can be cleaned with warm, soapy water, then rinsed and dried thoroughly. Oil finished pieces can be used for hot or cold foods and should be re-oiled with salad oil often. This is very easy to do: apply a small amount of oil on the inside and outside of the item, let set a few minutes, and wipe off excess.
